Zimbabwe Warriors captain Knowledge Musona’s exploits for the Warriors have reignited the debate of country versus country, burdening the nation for a while.
Former captain Peter Ndlovu endured a similar storm, but he showed commitment when he travelled for some games, even at his own expense. In other instances, Peter financed the team’s expenditures. For that, Peter is regarded as one of the best players and captain to grace the Warriors jersey.
After Zimbabwe qualified for the Afcon 2022 finals set for Cameroon, the Musona failed to conceal his excitement. In a congratulatory tweet, he wrote, “We did it for you guys who were not present and of course for the nation at large. Good job Warriors! Good job Warriors! AFCON 2022 here we COME! To all our supports thank you for your support always!!”
The depleted Warriors squad however delivered the results, despite the recurrent problems haunting the squad during every tournament.

Musona flew into the country from his Belgium base, a bold move that bolstered the squad’s confidence, desperate for such. “We might not have some of the key players but we have the quality to come out with the positive result we need to win the game.”
“We are all good players like we are all not here by mistake but they (the new players) also have quality so I believe in each and everyone who has been chosen to play…,” Musona told a press conference in Harare.
On the match day, the players on duty delivered the goods, despite earlier setbacks. Warriors’ greenhorn Perfect Chikwende nudged home a first half header to give a lifeline to the team. The away team resisted the nagging Zebras to hang on to the slender lead until the final kick.
The result unleashed euphoric celebrations, further enhanced by Zambia versus Algeria draw, teams from the same group, a result which meant the Warriors had qualified. “Super proud of my squad, we conquered & played very well even though some of our players were sadly not present due to unforeseen circumstances,” Musona’s tweet continued.
A subdued match by Zimbabwe’s previous standards, it was deprived of the spark initiated by the “KK combination”, partnering Musona and Khama up front, that was guaranteed to unleash wild dancing celebrations from their Vietnam loyal fans.
